ARCH 384

Studio 3B instructed by Bailey Shugart seeks to explicate the complex relationships between form, structure, spatial organization, and tectonic qualities through precedent analysis and building design. Project 1 is an individual effort that develops the vocabularies and taxonomies of structural systems in the context of a series of abstract examinations of the elements –both discreet and aggregate –that comprise complex structures. in choosing the arch structure we partner up with a classmate to combine and create a relationship with their chosen structure system. the arch structure combined with my partner Michael Sanches waffle slab structure, we develop a waffle slab roofing system supported by arch columns. The 2 systems are utilized to create a new innovative and much more efficient terminal drive-through drop-off only that is located closer to the PCH highway to alleviate the congested lax terminals and traffic around. Thinking of the future of transportation with uber and autonomous driving, we developed a system to be more efficient, faster, and easy to process through the terminal to create a new flight experience.
